Cheshire Renovations is a building company on Parkgate Road in Chester, run by its founding director Ryan Retter. Full and part house renovations and extensions, structural and steel work, plastering and rendering, electrics, plumbing, tiling, flooring, carpentry, interior decoration and garden landscaping — ten trades under one roof, so the job isn't handed between firms halfway through.

A renovation is easy to start. The hard part is finishing it — and that's the part we take responsibility for.
Cheshire Renovations was incorporated in Chester in October 2013 and has been run since by its founding director, Ryan Retter. The work is full and part renovations and extensions: taking a house that doesn't work any more and rebuilding it into one that does, from the groundworks up to the skim coat.
Because the joiners, plumbers, electricians and craftsmen are our own, the sequence of a renovation is planned as one job rather than negotiated between firms. The steel goes in when the opening is ready. First fix follows the stud. Plaster follows first fix. Nobody waits three weeks for somebody else's diary — and no one gets to blame the trade before them.
Where a renovation starts
Nearly every house worth renovating has a wall in the wrong place.
Taking it out is the first thing that happens and the thing everything else waits on. We work to an engineer's calculations, prop and needle the load, form the opening and set the steel on proper padstones — then our own plasterers make it disappear. One company, so there is no gap between the beam going in and the room looking finished.

How it works

A walk round, and a proper look
We come to the house, look at what you've got and listen to what you want out of it. On a renovation that usually means talking through two or three ways of getting there — because the first idea and the affordable idea aren't always the same one, and it's better to find that out on day one than on week six.

A written, itemised quotation
You get the scope in writing, priced and broken down, so you can see what each part of the job costs and decide what stays in. Anything that comes up later and changes the scope is re-quoted in writing before it's done — no work appears on the final invoice that you haven't already seen a price for.

One team, one sequence
Structure, first fix, plaster, second fix, decoration, finishes: the trades are ours, so the programme is ours to keep. You get one number to ring for all of it, and one person who knows what happened on site yesterday and what's happening tomorrow.

Snagged, cleaned and handed back
We walk the job with you at the end, write down anything that isn't right, and put it right. Then the house gets cleared, cleaned and handed back — because the last hour of a renovation is the one everybody remembers.

Cheshire Renovations works out of 40B Parkgate Road, a few minutes from Chester city centre — the firm's own project write-ups name jobs in Hoole, Upton-by-Chester and Mollington, and the working patch is Chester and the surrounding Cheshire villages.
