Flooring
The layer that has to survive the rest of your life happening on it
Flooring is the last major trade in a renovation and the one most likely to be rushed, because by then everyone wants the job finished. That's exactly why it goes wrong — boards laid on a screed that hasn't dried, expansion gaps left out, or an engineered board specified in a room that gets wet twice a year.
We take the subfloor as seriously as the floor: levelled, dry, clean and sound, with the right underlay or decoupling membrane, and material acclimatised before it's cut. Then it's set out so the boards run the length of the room and the joins land where you don't look.
Subfloor preparation
Levelling compound where it's needed, moisture checks on screeds and concrete, loose boards fixed and squeaks killed before anything covers them up. Underfloor heating accommodated where it's there.
Wood, laminate and LVT
Engineered and solid timber, laminate and luxury vinyl tile, laid floating or fixed as the product and the room require, with proper expansion gaps, thresholds and scotia or re-fitted skirtings.
Tiled and stone floors
Porcelain, ceramic and stone floors laid on properly prepared and, where needed, decoupled substrates — the detail that stops a beautiful floor cracking along one line in its second winter.
